Anthony and I rushed to get to Big Woods Pizza after hearing about every restaurant being forced to close by 2:30 that afternoon. The previous night, drunk off blackberry wine that we bought from Brown County Winery, we decided to add another night and drive back the next afternoon with time for him to get to work. Little did we know that extra day would be filled with rushing for food, calling the hotel restaurant an embarrassing amount of times, and finding a hidden trail attached to Brown County State Park. We had gone to Nashville, IN just to get away; a combination of the stress caused by my job and the thought of possibly going somewhere else to work, and just the simple fact that we had not gotten away together in a while, led us to visiting the beautiful area for the second time.
We were thankful we had been able to get to a couple of the food destinations before everything shut down. As mentioned, Big Woods was rushed to immediately after the news article was shared by a friend and coworker of mine on Facebook. “Well, it’s on Facebook. So it must be real,” I said to Anthony, half joking about it.
“I guess it’s pizza for lunch instead of dinner,” he said, not joking about it. We promptly dressed and left the hotel.

Big Woods originated in Nashville, Indiana in 2009. While the starter location gained momentum and business, the company wanted to begin accommodating a larger area and become more family friendly; Big Woods began offering food, as well as a brewing company called Quaff On!, in order to bring in more business and make it easier to expand. Both are names seen all over, especially in liquor stores and at your favorite bars. Recently, in 2015, Hard Truth Distillery was born as a hard liquor brand for Big Woods.
The day before the restaurant shut-down, we had gone to the bar at Big Woods and each ordered a flight of different beers. The Six Foot Blonde, Six Foot Strawberry Blonde, and Busted Knuckle were oldies but goodies (you can’t go wrong with drinking a strawberry blonde beer as a strawberry blonde, okay? It keeps people on their toes). The wonderful discovery of the Santa Quaff, categorized as a “Winter Warmer” and paired with a brown sugar and cinnamon rim, was not taken lightly by Anthony or myself. The Blood Orange Yellow Dwarf, and wheat based ale, topped my chart as well. I twisted Anthony’s arm into a shot each of the Hard Truth cinnamon vodka because *vacation*, you feel? And it was a great decision. It was smooth, delicious, and most importantly, we could tell we took a shot instantly. Basically, they got damn good beer, pizza, and hard liquor. ‘Nuff said.
